![]() | Michael Carmichael is an independent scholar, who finances and directs his own research. He has adopted the policy of independence, in order to abstain from institutional pressures to produce findings that conform to a set of presupposed ideals. Instead, he investigates the history and philosophy of science from a unique vantage point, and he challenges opinions by suggesting that the past is radically different from the orthodox empiricist interpretation of the history of science. In so doing, he recommends that the intellectual community adopt a new vision of the past. Michael Carmichael wants to enhance the public understanding of science and the rules of scientific inquiry, which could help to establish a new standard of performance in science and open a new trend in scientific exploration -- in order to confront the problems facing civilisation, as well as the needs of individuals. He is writing a history of alchemy, which will expose the false presuppositions about the past that have driven science far away from its proper course. Carmichael's Vision "In order to make progress, we must believe in the power of intelligence and its ability to inquire into nature. Intelligence means understanding nature -- both, the physical world and the nature of the mind. No artificial barrier should exist between mind and matter, for Cartesian duality opens the Pandora's box of subjectivity, irrationality, error and delusion, barring a scientific approach to the phenomena of mind. Science must adopt a Quinian methodology that demands the broadest possible range of data. In other words, technological mastery must be combined with intellectual observations arising directly from the broadest range of consciousness, i.e. dreams, imagination, intuition and the entire spectrum of psychological data emerging from the human sensorium - that is itself, a complexified mass of quantum phenomena. The objective examination of perception is crucial to the advancement of science." Michael Carmichael. 2000 MICHAEL CARMICHAEL - Alchemy Online. All Rights Reserved. | ||
